Stone Village Art Guild holds fund-raising exhibit for Whiting Library

The Stone Village Art Guild, in collaboration with the Whiting Library in Chester, is holding an art exhibit/fundraiser through Oct. 29 at the library, 117 Main St.

For this Art Off the Wall exhibit, local artists will be donating 50% of their art sales to the library. Artists in the exhibition are from Chester, Ludlow, Springfield, Athens and Brattleboro, and two watercolors by Marilyn Mason will be on display in her memory.

The Stone Village Art Guild was founded in 2015 by Kathy Giurtino, Nena Nanfeldt and Marilyn Mason. These artists met at a watercolor workshop. with Robert O’Brien at Main Street Arts in Saxtons River. When they discovered they all lived in Chester and were members of or lived near the First Universalist Parish in the Stone Village, they knew they had found a home for painting together. Soon, the group attracted other artists looking for a welcoming, supportive art environment. More than 10 years later it is a thriving art community.

While the Art Guild has held many art exhibits over the years, this is its first collaboration. Information about the exhibit, including participating artists and their work, can be found here.

The library is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. 

The Stone Village Art Guild welcomes new members to join from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Community Room of the First Universalist Parish, 211 North St. in Chester’s Stone Village.
