The Friends of the Yosemite Firehouse Museum will hold walking tours of historic fires (and one near disaster) along Chester’s Main Street at 1 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 11 and again on Sunday Oct. 25.The tour is expected to take about 90 minutes with additional time available at the end for discussion.
The walk will be from Cobleigh Field to the Catholic Church and back, spanning the years between 1860 and 2023.
The number of attendees in each tour is limited. Email yosemitefirehousemuseum@gmail.com to reserve a spot or for information.
Attendance is free, but a donation to help the Friends with their work would be appreciated.
The Friends are working toward creating a museum at Yosemite Firehouse on the history of rural firefighting, with a specific focus of the Chester area.
Currently the Friends are working on re-installing electricity in the building, cleaning and documenting collections and applying for grants to ready the structure for public visitation. The 150th anniversary of Yosemite’s construction is in 2029.
