To the editor: Murray is not a moderate Republican

With November elections upon us, these are the times that test our country’s character and its future. And nothing is more important when voting for a person than the quality of their character. Are they humble, are they honest, are they honorable, and do they have integrity?

Which brings me to Andrea DeLuna Murray who is running for the Vermont State Senate in Windsor County. She is a Republican. Since showing up recently in Vermont and getting involved in local Republican politics a short time ago, she has harassed local Republicans and local officials, threatened legal action against her neighbors, and even sued the chairman of the Vermont Republican Party.

Today, Andrea Murray is presenting herself, as a moderate Republican. But don’t be fooled. It was she, along with her husband August (he now works for the Trump administration) who organized and led the effort to take over the Republican Party in Windsor County for Donald Trump. And their first action, minutes into the takeover of the Party, was to endorse Donald Trump for president. Facts are stubborn things.

Is it possible that she hides her MAGA politics because she knows it’ll never fly in Windsor County? Perhaps. But the voters of Windsor County should know this before they vote.

Simply put, candidates’ positions on issues are important, for sure. But far more important is their character.

The 1844 Democratic National Convention, held in Baltimore, was one of those historic events that are worth studying closely. James Polk, who was not a candidate for president but was running for vice-president, ultimately won the presidential nomination after the convention was deadlocked and the delegates for the former president, Martin Van Buren, decided to switch to Polk. And the leading Van Buren delegate, representing the critical New York delegation, did so after taking the floor and saying, gracefully, that Polk:  ”…fully met the Jeffersonian standard of qualification being both capable, honest and faithful to all his trusts.”

I cannot say the same for Andrea DeLuna Murray and will not be voting for her in November 2026 for the Vermont state Senate.

Editor’s note: John MacGovern was the chair of the Windsor County Republicans in 2024 when a group including Murray sought to remove him from that post. He later resigned.

  1. Lynn Baldwin says:

The VT Republican Party has a big tent. We have Trump haters and Trump supporters. What we all do agree on is that VT Democrats have had a stranglehold on the State and it’s people. The result? Democrats sole responsibility over the past 30years for the affordability crisis we all face as we struggle to keep our homes, pay our taxes, pay electric and heating bills, watch VT Education system failing our children while we absorb double digit property tax increases and health insurance among the highest in the US. Most recently ACT 181 which sought to overlay Vermonters private property with oppressive control by radical environmentalists and infringe on their rights to their land. The bi-partisan 18,000 member Rural Vermont Rising org rallied and VT Republicans in the Statehouse stood firm for Vermonters property rights and led the charge to repeal Tier 3 and the Road Rule. Democrat policies have failed Vermonters.

While I respect John McGovern’s right to his opinions I should remind him he was voted out as the Windsor GOP Chair by a vote of 56-0. While we are a big tent and John remains a member of the Windsor GOP, Windsor Republicans rejected a Chairman who refused to allow fellow Republicans to organize their towns if they refused to vote for Joe Biden. The Windsor County GOP was dead in the water for decades under John’s leadership and now enjoys a wide membership of moderates and conservatives who have learned to work together for the greater good of Vermont.

Vermonters elected a record breaking number of Republicans to the VT Legislature in 2024 because of the extremist agenda of the ruling Democrats. The Windsor GOP has a wide slate of candidates ready to free Windsor County of the stranglehold of Sen Becca White, a vulgar child, who couldn’t even show up for the debate in Weathersfield because she was humiliated over the responses to her outrageous Tik Tok videos. Rep. Elizabeth Burrows at that debate had NOTHING to offer to solve our VT problems other than her hate Trump diatribes. We need serious change in Windsor County and its time to elect thinking adults who aren’t afraid to confront difficult problems.

The three Windsor Republican Senate Candidates, Andrea Murray, Johnathan Gleason and Jack Williams support repealing taxes on Social Security, creating high paying jobs for Windsor citizens and increasing the tax base and giving our young families a reason to stay in Vermont and r eject raising any taxes further without scrutiny over spending along with protecting your property rights against Democrat’s regulatory “takings”.

John, again, I respect your opinion, but re-electing Democrats that have caused these problems is more important than your sour grapes.
