Chester temporarily chlorinates public water

Temporary chlorination of Chester’s public water system began this evening — Friday, July 8 — to prevent problems that could be caused by the continuing water pipe replacement work, pressure testing and flushing that has been taking place along Route 103, says Jeff Holden, Chester’s water and sewer superintendent.

He adds that residents shouldn’t experience any change for two or three days, and the chlorination will take place for two to three weeks, “until finished … to make sure the water is safe for everyone.” Chlorine kills bacteria.

Holden adds that he is using a minimum amount of chlorine in the water. Anyone with questions about the chlorination is asked to call Holden at 1-802-384-3001.
